What exactly is travertine?

Travertine is a type of limestone which is most commonly deposited by natural springs. Travertine is typically supplied from Italy however it also can be quarried in countries such as Turkey, Iran and Peru.

What does travertine look like?

Travertine is often seen as a light coloured stone with white, tan, cream and gold varieties.  It is a luxurious natural material that will increase the value of any home.  Travertine tiles are typically available in either a polished shiny tile, a textured tile or a matt honed tile.

Will travertine tiles last in my home?

As with most natural stones, there is a large element of durability inherent in travertine.  That being said, it is also a natural stone so having the stone sealed should be a priority.  Some acidic foods and ingredients such as vinegar can potentially damage the surface so please get it contact before using any new cleaning products.

Is there much work involved in maintaining my travertine tiles?
